If you plan on heading out to Stonewall, Johnson City or Fredericksburg and wondering where to stay on the 290 wine trail, check out Stonewall Motor Lodge.
Stonewall Motor Lodge is a 1960s roadside motel located in the heart of the famous 290 wine trail. Above all, the lodge is surrounded by over 75 wineries from walking distance and 15 minutes to Fredericksburg or Johnson City.
Stonewall Motor Lodge was built in 1964 and it was restored in 2019 into modern luxury with a retro twist. The lodge sits on three acres and is the perfect place to relax after a full day of drinking wine and exploring.
Moreover, in this post I will share more about my stay, the history, the amenities, the location and some of my favorite wineries/vineyards nearby.
Thank you for hosting me Stonewall Motor Lodge and as always all opinions are my own.

The Room
Overall, there are 12 remodeled rooms, 4 cabins and RV parking at Stonewall Motor Lodge.
All rooms have contactless check in. There is a keypad on the door and the code is sent via email or text.
I stayed in one of the remodeled rooms with two queen sized beds. In addition, the room comes with a mini fridge, a Keurig, high speed WiFi, toiletries and a sitting area.

The History
Above all, take some time and stop by The Press Room. It was originally reserved for the Associated Press when President Johnson was in town.
It is now dedicated to the hotel’s history but the room is available for bookings as well. Let them know if you would like to take a tour and explore inside and learn more about the history of Stonewall Motor Lodge.

Amenities
After a long day at the wineries, it was nice to enjoy the second floor observation deck to relax. Have a glass of wine, and watch some stars from the deck.
Similarly, in the back there is a barn with more indoor/outdoor seating to have some morning coffee.

Location
Most importantly, let’s talk about location, location, location! Stonewall Motor Lodge is right on the 290 wine trail with over 75 wineries in the area.
For instance, a few that were recommended by Stonewall Motor Lodge, that I had to chance to visit and can highly recommend, are:
- Crowson Winery in Johnson City (amazing personal tasting experience you won’t get anywhere else)
- Ab Astris Winery (amazing wine and food pairings)
- William Chris Vineyard (had a chance to saber wine)
- Signor Vineyards (the most picturesque)

In Conclusion
In conclusion, if you are planning a trip to Texas Wine Country, Stonewall Motor Lodge is the perfect place to stay. Overall, I highly recommend staying longer than two days. There is so much to do in the area, but you can’t go wrong staying in the heart of the 290 wine trail at Stonewall Motor Lodge.
