🇲🇽LET’S CELEBRATE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH 🇲🇽LET’S CELEBRATE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH WITH @drinkpicadas
One thing I don’t talk about is that I often travel solo. On my recent road trip, I decided to bring along my parents for a well-deserved getaway to one of my favorite places in Texas, San Antonio!
I introduced them to one of my favorite Hispanic-owned businesses @drinkpicadas, they are Mexican-made hard aguas frescas. My dad enjoyed the mango flavor and my mom loved the guava flavor and said it was so good she didn’t even know it had alcohol in it!
I treated them to a nice family dinner, and introduced my mom to Mezcal, that watermelon cocktail was delicious! I convinced my dad to share the Tomahawk with me even though he said it was too much. Spoiler alert, not one piece was left.
And lastly, we made sure to spend some time relaxing by the pool, the hot tub, and the lazy river! Safe to say I had an amazing getaway with my parents and I can’t wait to bring them along on my next adventure! Cheers to spending time with family!
Thanks to Picadas for sponsoring this post!

Social Distance Getaway

July 8, 2020      1 Comment

Social Distance getaway vacation -
only 1 hour away from houston!

Getaway Brazos Valley

About Getaway at Brazos Valley

Getaway Brazos Valley is located in Navasota, Texas with over 40 tiny cabins. This is actually their new location that opened in May 2020 and it is the largest of their collections. Everything is bigger in Texas right? Other locations in Texas include Dallas and Austin-San Antonio. Best part is they are pet friendly (for an additional fee)!! Use our code TRAVELIN for $25 off your booking.

How does it work?

Getaway will text you a code 30 mins before arrival as there is a keypad on your door. Cabins are naturally socially distanced so you will barely see any neighbors. There is no Wi-Fi and low cellphone signal so there is a phone inside for emergencies that you can call 24/7.

Getaway will send you a map of the cabins so be sure to download it before you get there because otherwise you will not know how to get to your cabin! There is a comfortable bed and a bathroom with a shower inside your cabin and most importantly AC!

Getaway Brazos Valley

What to bring

Only the essentials, remember it’s a tiny space! Do not overpack! Bring comfortable PJs, loungewear to hang out outside and hiking/walking clothes and shoes. Plates, utensils, cookware, toiletries, towels are all provided but if you want to be more safe, you can bring your own items. Also, bring some card games if you like!

They do provide everything you need to set up a campfire but you do have to purchase the logs. They even provided a free smores kit! For the pup they provided some treats (smores), poop bags and a bowl. Most importantly, don’t forget bug spray, we learned our lesson!

Getaway Brazos Valley

What do you do there?

NOTHING! No, but really, just relax! Read a book, hang out outside, go for a hike/walk, grill some smores, or play some games with your loved ones. Use this time to getaway from your daily routine.

Hikes

Disclosure: Due to Covid it is recommended to stick to hikes which is what we did. We went to the other two places on our way home, stayed outside, practiced social distancing, and used masks.

Walking Trail near the cabins

We chose to do this trail as it is walking distance from your cabin. Use the map they provide you as there is no GPS. I recommend spraying bug spray and wearing long pants or leggings as there are areas on the trail with tons of branches with thorns. We brought our puppy so we cut the hike short and she was able to do the half mile but the complete trail is 1 mile.

Washington on the Brazos Area Trail

This hike is 30 mins from the cabins and it didn’t have great reviews. We didn’t want to waste an hour driving there and back so we skipped it!

Things to do nearby

Marthas Bloomers

Places to Eat

World’s Largest Teapot

Marthas Bloomers is a cafe and it is located about 20 mins away from the cabin. You can find the world’s largest teapot outside the cafe.

Buc-ee’s

For snacks, gas and restrooms on your way home there is a Buc-ee’s nearby, only 20 mins away.

Arlan’s market

You can buy groceries here if you forgot to bring any food, it is 20 mins away.

Sunflower field in Navasota, Texas

Sunflower Fields

Again, everything is bigger in Texas! I was so excited to find these in Navasota, 30 mins away from the cabin! Not sure how long they will stay in bloom. There is an open field, completely free but please be mindful and respectful of the sunflowers and stay on the edges. Also, beware there are tons of bees. Bring some water as it is super hot!

Type in The Gin at Hidalgo Falls in your GPS and the sunflowers are right across and after the venue.

The experience

Overall, we really enjoyed getting away from the city and spending more time outdoors. Our puppy absolutely loved it! Honestly, I feel like one night wasn’t enough. Truly wish we had more time to getaway and disconnect!
